The component is long therefore it is important to achieve a short material flow length and minimum injection pressure to avoid excessive deflection. Two injection points were chosen to achieve a balanced flow pattern.

Base & Sleeve

The two components vary in size, weight and flow path distance. The purpose of the Moldflow analysis was to achieve equal filling time. A restriction was added by reducing the runner diameter to the smaller component on the left. This has the effect of balancing the flow in each cavity.

Frame

The part has a very thick wall section and has to remain circular after moulding. The purpose of the Moldflow analysis was to check for any moulding problems e.g. balanced flow, short shot, fill time, flow front temperature, cavity pressure, injection pressure, weld lines, air traps, clamp force, etc.

Lid

This is a two cavity tool with a thick wall section and high shot weight. A two drop valve gate hot runner was specified. The purpose of the Moldflow analysis was to check if the hot runner nozzles could cope with the high rate of flow without causing any significant drop in flow front temperature.
